All Sylmar NC Board members as well as
interested residents of the community are invited to attend Green
Committee meetings.
Tentative Mission Statement: The Green
Committee, as a representative arm of the Sylmar Neighborhood
Council, will work to create a partnership among the small and big
businesses in our area, the high schools and colleges, technical
schools, and occupational centers for the following purposes:
to advocate for the formation and/or
retrofitting of green business/projects in the community
to advocate for educational programs to
train laborers for prevailing-wage, sustainable green-career
employment
to work with businesses to create
internships which will further train future workers for these
jobs
to work with the above-referenced businesses
to create programs by which they would hire graduates of such
educational programs and internships and/or assist such
graduates in finding similar employment at other similarly
minded companies (should such jobs not be available at the
company offering the internships)
to work with the City/County to advocate for
drought-resistant landscaping in the residential and commercial
neighborhoods, along freeways, at new developments, and so forth
to work with the Community Redevelopment
Agency to help develop and redevelop the community
to work with utility companies to work with
businesses (present and future) and homeowners and home
developers to use LEED approved designs for electric/gas/water
use
