The Port of Los Angeles is inviting the public to tour the L.A. Harbor and see some of the city’s most bustling landmarks from a new perspective.
The free 50-minute narrated tours will take place on Sept. 14 and will be shipping out from Banning’s Landing Community Center in Wilmington and Downtown Harbor in San Pedro near the Los Angeles Maritime Museum.
The tour will offer guests the chance to see the Los Angeles Main Channel from the water, including “up-close views” of the nation’s busiest shipping port, which generated $292 billion in trade and handled a total of 8.6 million container units in 2023.
Riders will be able to see active vessels, cargo terminals and cranes that keep the port moving, with a possible chance to see cruise ships, barges, fireboats and the harbor’s abundant marine wildlife.
The tours will also provide an unprecedented an unencumbered view of one of L.A.’s most well-known landmarks, the Vincent Thomas Bridge.
There are a limited number of free tour reservations available on the Port of L.A.’s website, but standby tours will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The tours are all ages and three of them are even specifically designated as “dog-friendly,” organizers said.
The Port of L.A. has been actively updating and investing in its infrastructure to become more sustainable and environmentally friendly in hopes of maintaining its spot as the nation’s busiest port.
Part of those ongoing efforts include community investment and outreach, like these free guided tours.
If you’re unable to make it for the free harbor tours, they are available for purchase year-round through Harbor Breeze Cruises. The port also offers two free live streams online.
