Hello again to Sylmar-area families, educators, tweens and teens,

I hope everyone is having a great school year so far!
We have lots of tween and teen events coming up at the library
starting with Papel Picado (Mexican Paper Art) craft this Monday
to celebrate Mexican Independence Day (Sept 16 at 4 pm.).

The following day (Tuesday, September 17 at 4 pm.), middle and high schoolers are welcome to join me on Zoom for my monthly Teen Council and New Volunteer Orientation to help out Sylmar Library! Tweens and teens can come to the meeting to let me know what programs and books they would like at the library, and learn about ways to help researchers using our science kits and online apps. Also, if you know a teen interested in becoming a library volunteer, they can join me on Zoom at 4:45 pm. (after Teen Council) for the New Volunteer Orientation to get on board! Please email me at [email protected] for the Zoom link to both the Zoom Teen Council and New Volunteer Orientation this Tuesday.

I'm attaching the flyer for our upcoming tween and teen events, including our Fall Astronomy Events with NASA and the Sidewalk Astronomers! I hope you can share this with family members, friends, and the community!

PS - Our support group, the Friends of Sylmar Library, is hoping to expand its membership! If you're interested, please come to their next meeting (this Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 1 pm.). You can also leave your contact information with us to pass along to our Friends, and you can also use the form attached if you'd like to join our Friends group.

PPS - If any teachers would like to come on a walking trip to Sylmar Library,
or have me come to your classes to talk about our services and getting a library card, please email me and we can work out a date and time for the visit!

All best wishes for a wonderful school year!
