In 1789, President George Washington proclaimed November 26 as a national Thanksgiving Day. In 1863, President Lincoln established that Thanksgiving would be celebrated annually on the last Thursday of November.

 
Some other events that happened on November 26 include:
  • The first college fraternity, Kappa Alpha, was founded in 1825. 
     
  • The University of Notre Dame was founded in 1842. 
     
  • The first football huddle was created in 1896. 
     
  • The movie Casablanca premiered in 1942. 
     
  • The game show The Price Is Right debuted in 1956. 
     
  • The first punk rock song, "Anarchy in the U.K.", was released in 1976.
