WILDFIRE DAY:LA Brings Free Wildfire Safety Fair to the Autry Museum as Los Angeles Faces Serious 2026 Wildfire Threat

Posted on 06/25/2026

Free June 27 community event will feature wildfire preparedness education, a Kids Fire Safety Zone, free breakfast, free museum entry, live demonstrations, classroom presentations, and family safety resources.

LOS ANGELES, CA — 2026 may bring a very serious threat of wildfires to Los Angeles. What was wonderful rain and vegetation growth at the beginning of the year is merely fuel now. After the Palisades Fire in 2025, so many other neighborhoods in Los Angeles are ripe for disaster. WILDFIRE DAY:LA is an intentional opportunity to help prepare communities to be more resilient before the next major wildfire emergency occurs.

WHAT

WILDFIRE DAY:LA is a free community wildfire preparedness fair designed to help families, homeowners, renters, neighborhood leaders, HOAs, Fire Safe Councils, NFPA Firewise communities, and local organizations take practical steps to reduce wildfire risk.

The event will include wildfire safety education, home protection information, defensible space guidance, evacuation planning, animal safety resources, insurance information, live demonstrations, community partner exhibits, firefighter meet-and-greets, fire trucks, children’s activities, and free museum entry.

The event is being produced by MySafe:LA, a division of the Safe Community Project, in partnership with Los Angeles City Council District 4 and the Los Angeles Fire Department, with support from Neighborhood Councils, Fire Safe Councils, NFPA Firewise entities, HOAs, and community members committed to wildfire preparedness.

WHY

Los Angeles communities are facing a dangerous wildfire reality. Early-year rain helped produce vegetation growth across the region, but as conditions dry out, that same growth can become fuel for fast-moving wildfires. WILDFIRE DAY:LA gives residents a direct opportunity to learn how to protect their homes, prepare their families, plan for evacuation, understand insurance challenges, and work together as neighborhoods before disaster strikes.

Wildfire Day:LA is about moving from concern to action,” said David Barrett, Executive Director for MySafe:LA. “The Palisades Fire showed how quickly a wildfire can change lives. This event gives families and communities practical tools they can use now to become safer, better prepared, and more resilient.”

Kids Fire Safety Zone

A major feature of WILDFIRE DAY:LA will be the Kids Fire Safety Zone, where children will learn how to become the “family hero” by understanding basic wildfire and home fire safety.

Every child attending the Kids Fire Safety Zone will receive a free interactive fire safety book. Kids will also have the opportunity to learn CPR basics, meet firefighters, see fire trucks, learn about family fire safety, understand what evacuation means, and discover how to pack a GO bag. The area will also include kid-friendly safety activities, firefighter interactions, an amazing face painting artist (a speciality for CD-4 events), and special prizes.

The Kids Fire Safety Zone is designed to make preparedness positive, memorable, and practical for the whole family.
