Wildfire preparedness in Los Angeles - LA Fire Safe Council Town Hall

Posted on 09/14/2026

Wildfire preparedness in Los Angeles continues to evolve — and this month, there is a lot to talk about.

LA Fire Safe Council Town Hall (see agenda below)

We’ll be joined by the California Department of Insurance for an update on insurance issues as we enter the fall — including wildfire concerns, flood insurance, and the very real potential for flooding and debris-flow impacts following wildfire and/or El Niño storms.

We’ll also take a closer look at what happened during the September 9 Getty Fire. In the days following the fire, we heard concerns and questions from community members about warnings, communications, traffic, and evacuation preparedness. MySafe:LA conducted a community snap-survey, and during the Town Hall we’ll share some of the results — including what residents told us about their experience that afternoon.

And there’s more.

What happened to Zone 0?

The proposed regulations were recently withdrawn from the California Office of Administrative Law. We’ll explain what happened, why it matters, and what may come next.

When do our evacuation workshops begin?

We’ll announce the initial schedule for MySafe:LA’s new evacuation workshop series and explain what participants can expect. These workshops are being designed to go beyond simply telling people to “be ready.” We want residents to better understand how evacuation actually works, what can create delays and gridlock, and what you can do before the next wildfire threatens your community.

Wildfire resilience is about more than clearing vegetation or packing a go-bag. It’s about understanding risk, knowing what is changing, asking good questions, and making informed decisions before an emergency begins.

We hope you’ll join us.

The meeting is free and open to the public. There will also be an opportunity for public questions and comments.

Please join MySafe:LA and the Los Angeles Regional Fire Safe Council for our September Virtual Town Hall on Thursday, September 24, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Pacific Time.  Online via Zoom
