NHTSA Statistics and Risks
- 176 fatalities: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 176 people died in drunk-driving crashes on Halloween nights (6:00 PM to 5:59 AM) from 2019 through 2024.
- High-risk age group: More than half (54%) of individuals aged 21 to 34 who died in traffic crashes on Halloween night during this period were involved in drunk-driving crashes.
- Pedestrian danger: 31 of the total fatalities during Halloween night drunk-driving crashes were pedestrians.
- National baseline: Nationwide, one person is killed roughly every 42 to 44 minutes in a drunk-driving crash.
