One Person Killed in Machinery Accident at Granada Hills/Sylmar Landfill

GRANADA HILLS / SYLMAR (CNS) – A man was killed today in an accident involving heavy machinery at the Sunshine Canyon Landfill in Granada Hills.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 14747 N. San Fernando Rd. Sylmar at 9:25 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A piece of heavy machinery overturned, resulting in the man’s death, the department reported.

His identity was not immediately released, but news reports from the scene indicated the victim was male.

According to ABC7, a backhoe apparently fell onto another machine the victim was operating, killing him instantly.

LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz said Cal/OSHA was notified and asked to respond to the scene.
