Congratulations to two Sylmar Community Advocates

We extend a "Super-Sylmar Shout-Out" and Congratulations to two Sylmar community members.

Our California State Assemblywoman Luz Rivas has awarded Liz Baca the honor of being named Equestrian Advocate of the Year and to Fanny for being recognized as AD 43’s Horse of the Year!

Lisa Baca is an avid equestrian who volunteers her time with equine rescue projects and is a founding member of the Los Angeles Equestrian Coalition. She is the partial owner of Monteverde Ranch Equestrian Center, a 14-acre horse facility located in Sylmar which provides a wide range of services to our community members including public trails rides year-round, a variety of summer camps, and support to the Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts with their horsemanship merit badges. Lisa truly adores all the horses on the ranch, including Fanny who recently stepped up as the adoptive mother to 17-week-old horse Lexie.

Lisa also serves as the Executive Director at California Latino Leadership Institute (CLLI). Through her work at the non-profit, she has worked towards providing youth programming and educational opportunities in Southern California. Through her role at CLLI, she continues to build positive relationships and partnerships with other organizations.

In 2023, Lisa launched a pilot program in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club for the Colts and Fillies Teen Leadership Program using horses and ponies as equestrian aids for building leadership skills.

Our California State Assemblywoman Luz Rivas has awarded Kurt Cabrera-Miller the honor of being named as Neighborhood Advocate of the Year!

As a passionate advocate, he has consistently worked to bring the community together, address community concerns, and bridge gaps. Kurt currently serves as the LA County Commissioner of Parks & Recreation, as well as the President of the Sylmar Neighborhood Council.

His tireless efforts in promoting neighborhood safety, organizing community events, and fostering a sense of unity have touched the lives of countless residents. Kurt's selflessness and commitment have made a real difference in the lives of many.

Congratulations to Kurt for being recognized as the Neighborhood Advocate of the Year, a true champion of our community.
