METRO - East San Fernando Valley Shared Right-of-Way (ROW) Study

Posted on 05/27/2025

Join us on May 30, June 12 and June 14 to discuss how we can improve transit in your area.

Metro is conducting a supplemental study for the ESFV LRT Project in a shared right-of-way (ROW) corridor. This shared corridor runs along the railroad tracks on San Fernando Rd and extends approximately 2.5 miles northwest from Van Nuys Blvd to the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Station. The study is evaluating rail transit alternatives that provide additional service to the communities of Pacoima and Sylmar and the City of San Fernando along this 2.5-mile route.
Alternatives under consideration include:

  • Light Rail Extension: extending light rail service along the existing Metrolink railroad ROW with three (3) stations at Paxton, Maclay and Sylmar/San Fernando
  • New Pacoima Metrolink Station: adding a new Metrolink rail station at Van Nuys/San Fernando Road, including a Mobility Hub. This hub is a convenient location where different types of transportation—like buses, trains, bikes, and ride-shares—come together to make it easier and more comfortable for people to get where they need to go. It would facilitate transfers for riders to connect from Metro’s ESFV LRT to Metrolink.

Join us on May 30 at a Resource Fair in San Fernando, June 12 via Zoom or June 14 in Pacoima. The Metro team will also be attending various events throughout the community to share information and gather community feedback. Please see the complete schedule below.

Overview
In 2020, the Metro Board approved construction of the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT) Project that is now under construction on Van Nuys Bl in the City of Los Angeles. The Metro Board directed that further studies be conducted for a possible future connection to the Metrolink Antelope Valley Line (AVL), which currently operates along San Fernando Road adjacent to the planned new Pacoima Light Rail Station.

Metro is conducting outreach to share the study results with the community. The public is encouraged to participate in the robust outreach process in spring/summer 2025 and provide input to help inform the staff recommendation to the Metro Board of Directors for the next steps of planning and development in this corridor.
