3 WINS Fitness Rises Up in El Cariso Park

For the past 1.5 years, dedicated CSUN student trainers have been dutifully reaching out to serve their community by hosting complimentary fitness classes 3 days a week at El Cariso Park.

Founded by Dr. Loy at CSUN in 2011, 3 WINS Fitness has since been led at El Cariso Park after the pandemic shut it down by then Matador student, David Jimenez (Kinesiology Major) who stands out front and center donning his traditional straw cowboy hat and custom sunglasses while instructing and keeping a vigilant eye on his class.

He was able to bring forth these 3 WINS Fitness classes (another is conducted at Las Palmas Park) while under the professorship of Dr. Loy, with only 12 class attendees and has since built it up with his team of trainers to 25-30 students who attend 3 WINS Fitness classes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:30a-9:30a with a main team of other student trainers studying Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy/Fitness & Athletic Training: (at El Cariso Park) Jose Fragoso, Mia Perdomo, and Alec Bedikian along with new CSUN student trainers every new semester rotating in and out to get hands-on training working with others eager to stay fit and gain the benefits of healthy living.

Answering the call of the obesity epidemic within underserved communities, David wanted to offer positive solutions where he and his team could teach others about the importance of physical workouts, stretching, breathing, how to make positive food choices and honing the craft of a healthier lifestyle.

Currently, those drawn to take on 3 WINS Fitness classes at MEND in Pacoima, Las Palmas Park in San Fernando and LAC El Cariso Park in Sylmar are an older population, primarily women who challenge themselves to engage in day-to-day life, body and mind to muscle connections.  Many have shared that these weekly workouts provide for a positive mindset and a more light feeling inside their bodies.  They also are excited to have trained and run in last year's and this year's San Fernando Valley Mile on Saturday, October 28th where Community Services Supervisor, Juan Salas ran a tight ship and smooth operation for all!
